Zachariah Butterfield

From Jefferson County NY Wiki

Was one of the first settlers in Watertown. He was the second settler to arrive in Watertown, after Henry Coffeen. Butterfield is considered one of the city's founding fathers.

Butterfield left Schuylar, New York and arrived in Watertown in late March of 1800. He and his family built their homestead on the site now occupied by the YMCA. In 1805, Butterfield, along with other settlers, donated their land in the center of the village for the creation of Public Square.

Butterfield Avenue in Watertown is named for him.
