Quoted from Hough's History of Jefferson County (1854):
On the 7th of February, 1833, a fire occurred, which burned the extensive tannery and oil mill of Mr. J. (Jason) Fairbanks; the paper mill and printing office of Knowlton & Rice, and a morocco factory and dwelling of Kitts & Carpenter; loss about $30,000.
On July 7, 1833, fire destroyed the factories on Beebee's Island, including Levi Beebee's Jefferson Cotton Mills.
