Old State Street Road

From Jefferson County NY Wiki

Hundreds of cars go up and down State Street hill every day on County Route 126, but only in the winter can anyone see the path of the first State Street hill where it snaked down the side of the hill south of the present roadway. Much of the original roadbed is largely abandoned and is on private property while part of the rest is the dead-end road known as Slate Road, an extension of County Route 160.

The photos below show parts of the original roadway and a remaining concrete bridge. Former emergency responders and tow truck drivers can recount many, many accidents on the curve just down the hill from the bridge before thousands of truckloads of fill created the present-day roadbed for Route 126.
