Mary Farmer

From Jefferson County NY Wiki

April 27, 1908 was when Jefferson County Sheriff, Ezra D. Bellinger, found the dismembered body of Sarah Brennan, in a trunk in her tenant house being rented by Mary Farmer and her husband on Paddy Hill just across the Black River from Brownville, NY.

It was determined that Mary Farmer forged Sarah's signature to the deed for both the tenant house, and the one that Sarah and her husband lived in next door. Mary Farmer was convicted of Sarah's murder and Mary's husband eventually acquitted of complicity. Mary died in the electric chair at Prison] March 29, 1909.

She was the first woman to die in the electric chair in New York, the second woman to be executed in the state, and the only one from Jefferson County.
