George Neher (Nair)
Longtime local radio personality
George Nair was not a native of Jefferson County but was a longtime resident and well-known local broadcaster for over forty years.
Nair graduated from high school in the Buffalo suburb of Orchard Park, and then attended St. Lawrence University in Canton and later got his first radio-related job at WPDM radio in nearby Potsdam. In 1964 he was hired at WWNY-TV and radio and moved to Watertown.
Over his career he hosted talk radio shows, was a DJ, program director, and operations manager for local radio stations.
Upon his death in late August, 2009 he had been working at WTNY-AM radio but had not been on the air for some time, and had been ill and recently been discharged from a hospital. He was found dead in his home in Watertown at age 65.
