The American Revolution, American Revolutionary War, War for Independence

The colonies united against Great Britain in a war for independence (1775-1783), this also resulted in the Declaration of Independence in 1776.

In 1763 Britain imposed a high number of taxes on the colonies and with no representation of the colonial government in the British Parliament; the colonies staged protests (like the Boston Tea Party) and restructured the colonial government. This resulted in the British sending in troops and the colonies organizing their own militia to fight them, as well as an American alliance with France in 1778.
